    Subtitled T-days: 'Quit Staring at My Plate'

    On Thursday (13 July) our summer screening program 'Subtitled T-days' (with English subtitles included) will present the Croatian film 'Quit Staring at My Plate' ('Ne gledaj mi u pijat'), directed by Hana Jušić. Screening starts at 7 pm.

     

    Debut feature film by praised Croatian director Hana Jušić is a wry and realistic look at the grimmer, more arduous elements of life and a young woman who manages to rise above them and find escape. The film won the FEDEORA Award for Best European Film at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival, Special Mention at the Warsaw Film Festival, Award for Best Director at the Tokyo International Film Festival and a Special Mention at Zagreb Film Festival.

     

    Marijana’s life revolves around her family, whether she likes it or not. They live on top of one another in a tiny apartment, driving one another crazy. Then her controlling father has a stroke and is left completely bedridden, and Marijana takes his place as head of the clan. Soon, she is working two jobs to keep everything afloat, while her mother and disabled brother do their best to scupper the ship. Driven to the edge, Marijana tries to find a taste of freedom, which leaves her wanting more.

     

    During the summer, every Tuesday and Thursday from 29 June until 2 September, screenings at Cinema Europa's Grand Hall will have English subtitles alongside the Croatian ones.
